Fiisut V -kyselyn tulokset / Results of the Fiisut V questionnaire

Fiisut V -työryhmä on toteuttanut syksyllä kiltalaisille kyselyn liittyen laulukirjan tulevaan viidenteen painokseen. Kyselyyn tulleet vastaukset on nyt käyty läpi, ja halusimme jakaa tulokset myös muiden kiltalaisten nähtäväksi. Kyselyn perusteella ei ole tehty vielä lopullisia päätöksiä, minkä toivoisimme huomioitavan tuloksia lukiessanne. Esimerkiksi

Mitä haluamme ilmaista kyselyn pohjalta: Kappaleesta X tuli ainakin jonkin verran vastauksia, joissa se nähtiin ongelmalliseksi, minkä vuoksi asiasta on hyvä keskustella lisää.

Mitä ei olla vielä tehty: Kyselyn pohjalta on päätetty, että kappale X on ongelmallinen, eikä tule Fiisuihin.

Vastaajat

Yhteensä kyselyyn saatiin 30 vastausta. Vastaajista fukseja oli 20%, tupsuja 20%, kolmannen vuoden opiskelijoita 33,3%, neljännen vuoden opiskelijoita 23,3% ja änniä 3,3%. Miehiä vastaajista 60% ja naisia 30%; 10% ei halunnut vastata. Vastaajista 13,3% on toiminut laulunjohtajana. Yleisesti ottaen kysely siis tavoitti monipuolisen joukon kiltalaisia.

Kyselystä saadun palautteen perusteella vastaajien joukossa oli huolta siitä, miksi vuosikurssi- ja sukupuolitietoa ylipäänsä kysyttiin. Huoli on perusteltu, sillä tieto on mahdollista yhdistää muihin vastauksiin, jolloin vastausten käsittelijän omat (alitajuntaiset) arvot voisivat vaikuttaa vastausten tulkintaan.

Vakuutamme, että taustatietoja ei ole yhdistetty muihin vastauksiin, ja tiedot kysyttiin vain saadaksemme selkeän kuvan siitä, edustavatko kyselyyn tulleet vastaukset kiltalaisia tarpeeksi monipuolisesti.

Periaatteelliset

Vastaajista 96,7% ajatteli, että Fyysikkokillalla tulisi olla oma laulukirja. Työryhmä oli tulokseen erityisen tyytyväinen, sillä on mukavaa tehdä työtä, jolla on tarkoitus.

Vastaajilta kysyttiin myös, mikä on laulukirjan tarkoitus. Vastaajille tärkeimmät seikat olivat laulukirjan sisältämät killallemme ominaiset kappaleet, joita ei löydy muista kirjoista, sekä olemassa olevan laulukulttuurin rikastaminen.

Hyvän laulukirjan ominaisuuksia tiedusteltaessa yleisimmin mainittiin sisällön hauskuus ja monipuolisuus. Lisäksi kirjan toivottiin olevan kiltalaisten näköinen ja tukevan kilta- ja laulukulttuuria. Kirjan tulisi myös olla edustava ja asiallinen, eikä sen tulisi sisältää loukkaavaa sisältöä.

Näiden seikkojen lisäksi laulukirjan eduiksi mainittiin kestävyys ja tyylikäs ulkonäkö. Kirjan tulisi sisältää yleisimmin lauletut kappaleet, ja kappaleet tulisi löytää mahdollisimman helposti. Kappaleiden historiasta kertovat tietoiskut koettiin myös tärkeiksi.

Nykyisen painoksen eduiksi nähtiin erityisesti sen kestävyys, kovakantisuus sekä materiaali, joka ei ole altis likaantumiselle. Lisäksi Fiisujen taiton ja rakenteen koettiin olevan onnistunut, ja sivuilla on paljon tilaa kirjoittaa lisäsäkeistöjä ja viestejä kirjan omistajalle. Myös kuvitusta kiiteltiin, samoin kuin kirjan kaunista ulkonäköä. Lauluvalikoiman koettiin myös olevan toimiva.

Toisaalta nykyisessä painoksessa koettiin myös olevan paikoin liikaa lauluja, ja erityisesti isänmaallisten ja aatteellisten laulujen suhteellisen suuri määrä ei tuntunut perustellulta. Useampiin kappaleisiin toivottiin myös merkintä siitä, mihin säveleen kappale lauletaan. Hakemistoon toivottiin laulunumeron lisäksi tai sen sijaan sivunumero.

Ylivoimaisesti toivotuin lisäominaisuus olivat tietoiskut kappaleiden historiasta. Tämän lisäksi kappaleisiin toivottiin nuotit, joskin vastaajat myös tiedostivat, että tilankäyttö voi olla ongelmallista. Lisäksi uuteen painokseen toivottiin jokin tapa kiinnittää kynä.

Kappaleet

Saimme hyvän määrän konkreettisia ehdotuksia uuteen painokseen lisättävistä kappaleista. Useammin kuin kerran mainittiin esim. Tuntematon kemisti, Kiltiselämää, Lonkero Theme ja Mellan sup.

Yleisesti uuteen painokseen toivottiin kappaleita, joita lauletaan nykyisin paljon sitseillä, ja jotka täytyy painaa aina läsyyn. Lisäksi Fiisuihin ehdotettiin lisättävän esim. Kiljava-kappaleita, speksibiisejä, serenadeja ja uudelleensanoituksia tutuista kappaleista.

Kysyimme vastaajilta myös, mitä tällä hetkellä Fiisuissa olevia tai yleisesti laulettuja kappaleita uuteen painokseen ei tulisi painaa. Yleisesti vastaajat kantoivat huolta erityisesti Teekkarihymnin vanhan version sekä laulujen epävirallisten ja ongelmallisten lisäsäkeistöjen painamisen suhteen.

Yleisimpiä huolenaiheita vastaajien joukossa olivat kappaleiden rasistisuus ja seksistisyys, sekä muihin syrjittyihin ihmisryhmiin kohdistuva loukkaava sisältö. Moni vastaaja mainitsi kappaleen Jos eukkosi kieltää sua juomasta olevan ongelmallinen nykyisillä sanoilla. Lisäksi huolenaiheiksi mainittiin Teemu Teekkarin säkeistö 8.7. romaneihin kohdistuvan syrjinnän vuoksi, sekä venäläisviha, jota ilmenee vaikkapa kappaleessa Sörnai gusha.

Moni ei myöskään toivonut Fiisuihin rivoja kappaleita, kuten Pohjolan pitoja tai Euforiaa. Kommunistiset tai muuten poliittiset kappaleet koettiin myös kyseenalaisiksi, eikä niiden suurelle määrällä nähty olevan perusteita.

Lopuksi

Erityinen työryhmän suuntaan viestitty huolenaihe oli Fyysikkokillan omalla laulukulttuurillaan tekemä tasa-arvotyö. Kilta nähdään osallisena moniin ongelmiin, ja uuteen painokseen toivottiin kipeästi päivityksiä nykypäivään sopivalla tavalla.

Vastaavasti työryhmän kuitenkin toivottiin käyttävän harkintaa uuden painoksen päivittämisen suhteen. Perinteikkäitä kappaleita ei toivottu tuomittavan suorilta käsin, ettei laulukulttuuri köyhtyisi liikaa. Lisäksi toivottiin huomioitavan kappaleiden historiallinen arvo.

Fiisut V -työryhmä toivoo, että kyselyn tulokset herättävät killassa lisää keskustelua aiheesta ja rohkaisee kaikkia osallistumaan siihen esimerkiksi tässä ketjussa. Vaihtoehtoisesti voit myös ottaa henkilökohtaisesti yhteyttä johonkin työryhmän jäseneen.

Työryhmä rekrytoi joulukuun alussa kiltalaisten joukosta henkilöitä esim. kirjan taittoon ja kuvitukseen. Rekryn yhteydessä on myös mahdollista hakea mukaan suunnittelemaan kirjan sisältöä.

Fiisut V-project team has conducted a survey for the guild members in autumn regarding the future fifth edition of our songbook. The survey answers have been analyzed and we would like to share the results for other guild members to see. No final decisions have been made based on the results of the survey, which we hope that everyone notifies when reading the results. For example

What we would like to say based on the survey: Song X gained at least some answers, which considered it problematic, which is why it is good to have further discussions about it.

What we haven’t done: Based on the survey we have decided, that song X is a problem and will not be in the next Fiisut.

Respondents

In total we garnered 30 answers to the survey. Of the respondents 20% were freshmen, 20% second year students, 33,3% third year students, 23,3% fourth year students and 3,3% were older. 60% of the responses were from males, 30% from females and 10% declined to answer. In total 13,3% of the respondents have worked as song leaders officially. In general the survey corresponds to a great variety of guild members.

Based on the feedback from the survey there was some concern why the year of studies and gender were asked in the feedback form. The concern is valid, since the answers were possible to link to other answers, so that the subconcious values of those reading the results could affect the analysis.

We would like to affirm that this information has not been applied to the other answers and the information was asked only to get a better picture on whether the answers to the survey reflect a great variety of guild members.

The crucials

In total 96,7% of the respondents thought that the Guild of Physics should have it’s own songbook. The project team is very pleased with this result as it is great to do work with a purpose.

We also asked the respondents what is the purpose of the songbook. The most important factors included having all the songs most important to the Guild, that are not found in other songbooks, as well as enriching the the existing song culture.

When asking about properties of a good songbook the most frequent answer was the content being highly varied and fun. In addition they hope that the book will have a look similar to the guild members and supporting the Guild culture as well as song culture in general. The book should be presentable and proper and it should not include hurtful content.

Besides these it would be beneficial for the book to be durable and have a stylish outlook. The book should contain the most commonly sung songs and it should be easy to find the songs. It was considered important that the songs would have history tidbits about them when applicable.

The most notable good aspects of the current book are especially it’s durability, being hard-cover and the material, which is resistant to getting dirty. In addition the editing and structure of Fiisut was considered successful and the pages have a lot of room for additional verses and messages to the book owner. The pictures of the book were also well received as well as the pretty outlook. The selection of songs was deemed to be functional.

On the other hand in the current edition there are also too many songs at points, especially the amount of patriotic and ideological seems very great for no particular reason. Respondents also hoped that most songs would have some indication of the melody of how it should be sang. In the index instead of the song number there ought to be the page the song is at, or possibly both.

The most requested addition was easily to have more information for the background of various songs. In addition there was hope for having the music sheets for songs, though it was also noted that it might be problematic in terms of space. Last there was hope to have some sort of way to connect a pencil to the book.

The songs

We received many concrete suggestions for songs to be added to the new edition. More than once songs such as Tuntematon kemisti, Kiltiselämää, Lonkero Theme and Mellan sup were mentioned.

In general it was hoped that the new edition would contain songs that are sung often at sitsit nowadays and always have to be printed to the song sheet. There were also suggestions to add Kiljava-songs, Spex songs, serenades and familiar songs with new lyrics.

We also asked the respondents about songs that are in the current edition of Fiisut that shouldn’t be printed in the new one. In general the respondents were worried about the old version of Teekkarihymn and many unofficial or problematic extra verses of some songs.

The most common causes for concern were songs with racist or sexist tendencies as well as any songs that are insulting towards minority groups or pariahs. Many respondents mentioned the song If your wife tells you not to drink to be problematic with the current words. There were also mentions of 8.7. of Teemu Teekkari concerning the romani people as well as russophobia that can be seen in songs like Sörnai gusha.

Many would also prefer not to have many vulgar songs in Fiisut, such as Pohjolan pidot or Euforia. Communist and other political songs were also controversial and there seemed to be no good reasons for having so many of them.

Conclusion

On particular aspect that was informed to the project team was the work towards equality that the Guild of Physics is doing with their song culture. The Guild is seen as being a part of many problems and the new edition should get modernized quickly with applicable updates.

At the same time there was hope that the project team would use caution in updating the book. Many traditional songs should not be dismissed immediately, so that the song culture would not degrade too much. In addition the historical significance of songs should be taken into consideration.

Fiisut V-project team hopes that the results of this survey spark more discussion about the subject in the Guild and encourages everyone to participate to it for instance in this feed. Alternatively you may contact one of the members of the project team personally.

The project team will recruit people from Guild members in December to, for instance, editing and graphics. Recruiting also allows applying for designing the contents of the book.
