Ensin asia ytimekkäästi:
TL;DR: Teekkarius 150-projektin ideana on rakentaa saunalautta. Killan on mahdollista saada saunalautta ilmaiseksi, mutta samalla sitoutuu pyörittämään sen vuokraustoimintaa ja ylläpitämään sitä viideksi vuodeksi. Raati ei tällä hetkellä kannata saunalautan hankintaa, mutta haluaa kuulla kiltalaisten mielipidettä Fiirumilla ja keskustelutilaisuudessa 20.7. klo 18.00, M145a, Otakaari 1. Sitten vähän pidemmän kaavan mukaan:
Teekkarius 150 -juhlavuoden yhtenä osana on toteuttaa projekti, jonka muodoksi on nyt valikoitunut saunalautta. Lautta rakennettaisiin koko Aalto-yhteisön talkootyönä projektitoimikunnan vetämänä. Rakennus ei ole kuitenkaan päässyt vielä alkamaan, koska lautan valmistumisen jälkeen tarvitaan joku yhdistys, joka ylläpitää lauttaa ja pyörittää sen vuokraamista. Lauttaa on nyt tarjottu eri yhdistyksille Otaniemessä, ja myös Fyysikkokillan raati on keskustellut mahdollisesta kiinnostuksesta lautan hankintaan, ja lisäksi killan jatkuvuustoimikunta on osallistunut pohdintaan. Raati haluaa nyt kuulla kiltalaisten mielipiteitä tähän liittyen, sekä Fiirumilla että keskustelutilaisuudessa 20.7. klo 18.00, M145a, Otakaari 1.
Tässä postauksessa esittelen idean yleisesti, mutta tarkempia tietoja voi käydä katsomassa tästä esityksestä.
Mikä lautta?
Kuvia lautasta löytyy ylläolevasta diaesityksestä. Lautan kapasiteetti olisi 12 henkilöä, ja tämänhetkisten suunnitelmien mukaan siinä olisi saunan lisäksi myös WC ja kaasugrilli, muttei suihkua.
Mistä lautta saadaan ja mitä se maksaa?
Lautan rakentaminen ja hankkiminen killalle ei maksaisi mitään, vaan rakennus rahoitettaisiin erilaisilla diileillä ja sopimuksilla, jotka ovat käytännössä jo kaikki sovittu. “Maksu” lautan saamisesta on, että kilta sitoutuu ylläpitämään lauttaa ja sen vuokraustoimintaa viideksi vuodeksi. Viiden vuoden jälkeen lautalla voi halutessaan heittää vaikka vesilintua, mutta siihen asti sen pitää olla vuokrattavana.
Mitä kuuluu vuokraukseen ja ylläpitoon?
Lautta tulisi sijaitsemaan Otaniemen Venekerhon alueella Otarannassa. Vuokratoiminta edellyttää, että kilta päästää vuokraajan sisälle Venekerhon alueelle ja on vastassa vuokrauksen päättyessä. Ylläpitoon kuuluisi esimerkiksi polttoaineen tankkaus ja polttopuiden täyttö noin joka 4-5. vuokrauskerta. Lisäksi lautalle pitäisi tehdä tarkempi kuntotarkistus noin 1-2 kertaa vuodessa. Lautta on tämänhetkisten suunnitelmien mukaan sellainen, ettei sitä välttämättä tarvitsisi nostaa talviteloille. Näihin tehtäviin tarvittaisiin kiltalaisista vapaaehtoisia, joiden palkkiona voisi esimerkiksi olla että he saavat käyttää lauttaa X kertaa vuodessa ilman veloitusta.
Kustannukset?
Diaesityksessä löytyy tarkempi erittely, mutta per vuokrauskerta kustannukset olisivat arviolta maksimissaan noin 130 € luokkaa. Vuosittaisia kiinteitä kustannuksia olisivat venekerhon jäsenyys ja venepaikka sekä muu ylläpito, yhteensä noin 900 €, ja vakuutus, josta tämänhetkinen arvio on noin 1500 € vuodessa. Toimikunnan esityksessä vuokraushinnat olivat 300 € opiskelijoille/opiskelijoiden yhdistyksille, ja 500 € muille, jolloin 8 opiskelijavuokrausta ja 2 muuta kattaisivat nämä kulut varsin hyvin.
Plussat ja miinukset
Saunalautta killalla olisi totta kai hyvin siistiä, ja sitä voitaisiin hyödyntää erilaisissa tapahtumissa killalle halpaan hintaan. Lisäksi saunalautan hankkiminen tarjoaisi kiltaisille uusia ja mielenkiintoisia toimintamahdollisuuksia esimerkiksi sen ylläpitoon liittyen. Lautta voisi myös olla jonkinasteinen tulonlähde killalle.
Ehdottomasti suurin haaste on saunalauttaan sitoutuminen viideksi vuodeksi, joka on erittäin pitkä aika opiskelijatoiminnassa. Hankintaan sisältyy myös taloudellinen riski, mikäli lautalle ei olekaan kysyntää. Lautan varsin pieni koko voi rajoittaa sen hyödyllisyyttä killan tapahtumissa, eikä ole varmaa että toiminnan pyörittämisestä kiinnostuneita löytyisi tarpeeksi. Lisäksi se, tarviiko lautta rakennusluvan, on hiukan epäselvää.
Raadin näkökulma
Raati ei tällä hetkellä kannata lautan hankintaa, koska siihen liittyvät riskit nähdään suurempina kuin potentiaalinen hyöty.
Kyseessä on kuitenkin varsin uniikki mahdollisuus killalle, ja siksi raati haluaakin kuulla kiltalaisten mielipidettä. Erityisesti raatia kiinnostavia kysymyksiä ovat seuraavat:
1. Halutaanko killalle ylipäätään saunalautta?
Vaikka Fyysikkokilta ei lauttaa hankkisikaan, se päätyy todennäköisesti jollekin muulle yhdistyksille; kiinnostuneita on nimittäin muitakin. Eli lautan käyttö olisi kuitenkin mahdollista, mutta toki suurempaan hintaan. Näin kuitenkin vältettäisiin monia projektiin liittyviä riskejä. Toisaalta lautan omistamisessa on myös huomattavia etuja.
2. Onko kiinnostuneita toiminnan pyörittämiseen?
Vuokraustoiminnan pyörittäminen ei vaikuta mahdottoman työläältä, mutta kyllä se jonkin verran aikaa vie, ja ylläpito voi tietyissä tilanteissa viedä huomattavasti aikaa. Lisäksi lautan käyttöaika keskittyy kesään. Jotta lautta voitaisiin hankkia killalle, on killassa oltava riittävästi kiinnostusta vuokraustoiminnan ja ylläpidon hoitamiseen, ja täten raatia kiinnostaisi kuulla kiltalaisten näkemyksiä asiasta.
3. Onko saunalautan hankkimisesta saatava hyöty riskin arvoinen?
Vaikka saunalautta on ehdottomasti siisti idea, ja vaikka sellainen haluttaisiin, onko siitä saatava hyöty/ilo siihen liittyvän riskin arvoinen? Taloudellinen riski ei ole olematon, ja mikäli toiminnasta kiinnostuneita ei ole tarpeeksi, on riski että siitä tulee ylimääräinen taakka esimerkiksi raadille. Viisi vuotta on todella pitkä aika sitouttaa kiltaa yhtään mihinkään, jo kahden vuoden Fyysikkospeksi on hyvin pitkä sitoutuminen. Toisaalta saunalautasta saatava ilo ja mielekäs tekeminen voi olla todella positiivinen juttu killalle. Ja olisihan oma saunalautta ideana päheä.
Ehdotus on tullut hyvin nopealla aikataululla, ja projektitoimikunta haluaisi kuulla yhdistysten mielipiteet asiasta viimeistään 24.7. Tällä aikataululla ei ehditä järjestää killan kokousta (jossa tämä olisi kaikkein mielekkäintä käsitellä), mutta raati haluaa joka tapauksessa ottaa huomioon kiltalaisten mielipiteet. Tämän takia Fiirumilla-käytävän keskustelun lisäksi järjestetään epävirallinen keskustelutilaisuus päivänä 20.7. klo 18.00, M145a, Otakaari 1. Etäosallistumismahdollisuutta selvitellään, muttei voida luvata. Huomionarvoista on, että vaikka kilta päättäisi hakea saunalauttaa, ei se välttämättä päädy meille, mikäli muita kiinnostuneita yhdistyksiä on.

One part of the Teekkarius 150 anniversary year is to complete a project, which according to the current plans takes the form of a sauna raft. The raft would be built on volunteer work by the whole Aalto community and led by the project committee. However, the construction has not started yet, because after the completion of the raft, an association is needed to maintain the raft and run its rental business. The raft has now been offered to various associations in Otaniemi, and the board of the Guild of Physics has also discussed taking charge of the raft. In addition, the guild’s continuity committee has been consulted. The board now wants to hear the guild members’ opinions about this, both at Fiirumi and at the discussion event on 20.7. at 18.00, at M145a, Otakaari 1.

What raft?
Pictures of the raft can be found in the slide show above. The capacity of the raft would be 12 people, and according to the current plans, in addition to the sauna, it would also have a toilet and a gas grill, but no shower.
Where do we get the raft and how much does it cost?
Building and acquiring the raft for the guild would not cost anything, as the building would be financed with various deals and contracts, which are practically all already agreed upon. The “payment” for getting the raft is that the guild agrees to maintain the raft and run its rental activities for five years. After five years, one can do what one wishes regarding the raft, but until then it must be rented.
What entails renting and maintenance?
The raft would be located in the area of the Otaniemi Venekerho in Otaranta. The rental operation requires that the guild lets the renter into the Venekerho area and is there at the end of the rental. Maintenance would include, for example, refueling and filling firewood approximately every 4-5 rental session. In addition, the raft should have a more detailed maintenance checkup approximately 1-2 times a year. According to the current plans, the raft is such that it wouldn’t be needed to put away for Winter. Volunteers from the guilds would be needed for these tasks, whose reward could be, for example, that they get to use the raft X times a year without charge.
Costs?
There is a more detailed breakdown in the slide show, but the costs per rental would be around 130 € at most. Annual fixed costs would be the membership of the boat club and the boat berth and other maintenance, a total of about 900 €, and insurance, the current estimate of which is about 1500 € per year. In the committee’s presentation, the rental prices were 300 € for students/student associations, and 500 € for others, in which case 8 student rentals and 2 others would cover these costs quite well.
The pros and cons
A sauna raft owned by the guild would certainly be very cool, and it could be used in various events at a cheap price for the guild. In addition, acquiring a sauna raft would offer new and interesting activity opportunities for the guild members, for example in relation to its maintenance. The raft could also be a source of some income for the guild.
Definitely the biggest challenge is committing to the sauna raft for five years, which is a very long time in student associations. The purchase also includes a financial risk, if there is no demand for the raft. The rather small size of the raft limits its usefulness in guild events, and it is not certain that there will be enough people interested in running the rental operation and the maintenance. In addition, it is a bit unclear whether the raft needs a building permit.
The board’s point of view
The board does not currently support the taking over the responsibility of the sauna raft, because the risks associated with it are seen as greater than the potential benefits.
However, this is a very unique opportunity for the guild, and that is why the board wants to hear the opinion of the guild members. The questions of particular interest to the board are the following:
1. Do we want a sauna raft for the guild at all?
Even if the Guild of Physics does not acquire the raft, it will probably end up in some other association; after all, there are other associations who are interested. So the use of the raft would still be possible, but of course at a higher price. However, this would avoid many project-related risks. On the other hand, owning a raft also has considerable advantages.
2. Are there people interested in running the rental operation and maintenance of the raft?
Running a rental business does not seem impossibly difficult, but it does take some time, and maintenance can take a considerable amount of time in certain situations. In addition, the operating time of the raft is concentrated on the Summer. In order for the raft to be acquired for the guild, the guild must have sufficient interest in handling the rental operation and maintenance, and thus the board would be interested in hearing the views of the guild members on the matter.
3. Is the benefit of getting a sauna raft worth the risk?
Although a sauna raft is definitely a cool idea, and even if one is desired, is the benefit/joy from it worth the associated risk? The financial risk is not non-existent, and if there are not enough people interested in the rental operations and maintenance, there is a risk that it will become an extra burden, for example on the board. Five years is a really long time to commit the guild to anything, already two years of Fyysikkospeksi is a very long commitment. On the other hand, the joy and meaningful work you get from the sauna raft can be a really positive thing for the guild. And as an idea, the guild’s own sauna raft is very nice.
The proposal has been offered on a very fast schedule, and the project committee would like to hear the associations’ opinions on the matter no later than July 24th. With this schedule, there is no time to organize a guild meeting (which would be the best place for this discussion), but the board wants to take into account the guild members’ opinions. For this reason, in addition to the discussion here in Fiirumi, an informal discussion event will be organized on 20.7. at 18.00 at location M145, Otakaari 1. The possibility of remote participation is being investigated, but cannot be promised. Note that even if the guild decides to apply for the sauna raft, it is not guaranteed that the guild gets it, as there might be other interested associations.
