Kuten jotkut ovat varmaankin viikkotiedotteesta tai muualta bonganneet, halloped-haku on käynnissä. Ensi vuodelle on luvassa enemmän halloped-virkoja kuin ennen, sillä entinen TFM koulutusneuvosto jakaantuu kahdeksi erilliseksi maisterineuvostoksi. Uudet neuvostot ovat Matematiikan ja operaatiotutkimuksen maisteriohjelman koulutusneuvosto sekä Teknillisen fysiikan maisteriohjelman koulutusneuvosto.
Samalla, kun hallopedien paikkamäärät lisääntyvät, killan vaikuttamisen organisointi vaikeutuu ja opintovastaavan työmäärä kasvaa. Ensi vuonna kiltamme opintoadjutantin toimarivirka tulee muuttumaan, jotta myös killan muita hallopedejä saataisiin entistä aktiivisemmin vaikuttamiseen mukaan.
Eli mitä opintoadjutantit tekisivät jatkossa?
Killassamme toimivat ja linjamme pääaineita neuvostoissa edustavat hallopedit ja varahallopedit tulevat jatkossa olemaan myös kiltamme opintoadjutantteja. Pääaineitamme puidaan seuraavissa neuvostoissa
• Perustieteiden kandidaattiohjelmien koulutusneuvosto
• Perustieteiden akateeminen komitea
• Matematiikan ja operaatiotutkimuksen maisteriohjelman koulutusneuvosto
• Teknillisen fysiikan maisteriohjelman koulutusneuvosto
• Aalto Science and Technology Bachelor Programme Committee
• Life Science Technologies Programme Committee
Opintoadjutanttien tehtävänä on halloped virkansa ohella myös kokoustaa noin kerran kuukaudessa yhdessä muiden opintoadjutanttien ja opintovastaavan kanssa. Kokouksien tarkoituksena on pitää opintoadjutantit perillä linjamme opintoasioista, purkaa ja suunnitella yhdessä opintokyselyitä ja pallotella uusia ideoita linjojen kehittämiseksi. Lisäksi opintoadjutantin virkaan kuuluu raportoida oman neuvostonsa kokouksista kirjoittamalla kokousreferaatteja Fiirumille. Vastaava toimintamalli käytössä myös ENGillä.
Miksi tämä uudistus tehdään?
Hallopedit ovat jo jonkin aikaa olleet aika näkymättömiä killan toiminnassa, vaikka he tekevät yhdistyksen tarkoitusperien kannalta erittäin tärkeää työtä. Virallisesti hallopedit ovat AYY:n alaisia toimijoita, mutta laajempi näkyvyys killassamme on tärkeää, sillä viroissa edistetään laajasti kiltalaisia koskevia opintoasioita. Killallamme on paljon vaikutusvaltaa siihen, ketä virkoihin valitaan, joten ei ole syytä, miksei virkaa tehtäisi myös näkyvämmäksi kiltamme edustajana.
TFM koulutusneuvoston jakaantuminen tulee vaatimaan tulevaisuudessa entistä useamman hallopedin rekryämisen. Onneksi tämä ei ole tyypillisesti ollut ongelmana, päinvastoin, kaikki halukkaat eivät ole päässeet mukaan. Toivottavasti parempi näkyvyys tuo kuitenkin myös lisää kiinnostusta opintoasioista keskusteluun killassamme ja rohkaisee yhä useampaa lähtemään mukaan vaikuttamaan.
Hallopedeillä ei ole ollut omaa toimarivirkaa, minkä vuoksi heillä ei ole ollut mahdollisuutta esimerkiksi osallistua toimarivirkistyksiin tai saada kokoustarjoiluja. Jatkossa opintoadjutantin hallopedit ovat myös opintoadjutantteja ja näin ollen myös kiltamme toimihenkilöitä.
Lopulta uudistuksen tarkoituksena on helpottaa opintovastaavan työtä, jolle valtaosa killan vaikuttamistyöstä yliopiston suuntaan on aikaisemmin kasaantunut. Uudet opintoadjutantit toimisivat siis opintovastaavan tukijoukkona kirjoittamalla referaatteja neuvostojensa kokouksista, auttamalla purkamaan ja suunnittelemaan opintokyselyjä ja suunnitella yhdessä kiltamme edunvalvontaa. Yhteinen kokoustaminen ja keskustelu myös helpottaa hallopedien työtä pysyä perillä ajankohtaisista opintoasioista ja kiltamme eri opiskelijoiden mielipiteistä.

As some of you might be aware, the call for applications for student representatives in the administration of Aalto University is open. Next year, there will be more available positions to be filled than previously since the TFM degree programme committee will be split into two new committees: Master’s Degree Programme Committee for Mathematics and Operations Research and Master’s Degree Programme Committee for Engineering Physics.
As the positions for representatives increase in number, the organization of these roles becomes harder, and the workload of the Master of Academic Affairs increases. Next year, the role of Academic Affairs Adjutant will be changed so that the student representatives of our guild can also be better involved in the promotion of interest of the Guild of Physics.
What would academic affairs Adjutants do in the future?
In the future, our guilds student representativesand vice-representatives in administration of Aalto University, working in committees where the majors of our study programmes are discussed, will also be Academic Affairs Adjutants. Committees where these majors are discussed are
- Bachelor’s Degree Programme Committee of Science
- Academic Committee for Science
- Master’s Degree Programme Committee for Mathematics and Operations Research
- Master’s Degree Programme Committee for Engineering Physics
- Aalto Science and Technology Bachelor Programme Committee
- Life Science Technologies Programme Committee
Adjutants will alongside their representative duties also meet with each other and the Master of Academic Affairs once a month. The goal of these meetings is to help Adjutants to be on track with the latest news about our studies, go through and plan study inquiries ja discuss new ideas to improve our study programmes. In addition, Adjutants will write summaries to Fiirumi of their meetings with their respective committees. Similar system for student representatives is already in use at ENG.
Why will the position of Academic Affairs Adjutant be updated?
Student representatives have for some time been kind of invisible in our guild, even though they do tremendously important work. Officially, volunteer representatives work under AYY, but a larger visibility in the Guild is also important as representatives help to improve studies which concern us all. Our guild has a lot of power in choosing who can become such representative, so I see no reason why the representatives shouldn’t also be more visible as representatives of our guild.
With the introduction of new committees, it is now necessary to get more volunteer representatives than before. Luckily, recruitment for the role has not been an issue in the Guild, quite the contrary. Hopefully though, a more visible role of representatives will bring forward more conversation about study subjects and encourage even more new student interested to seek these positions.
Student representatives have not been officials in our guild and therefore have had no ability to take part in, for example, officials’ recreations. In the future, representatives will also be Academic Affairs Adjutants and consequently also officials.
Finally, a major goal of this update is to make the work of Master of Academic Affairs easier, to whom most of the representation work has previously been given. In the future, Adjutants will take some of the work off the Master of Academic Affair by previously mentioned ways: by holding meetings, writing summaries of committee meetings, and going through and planning study inquiries. This will also make the work of representatives more efficient as discussing subjects together makes it easier to stay on track with the latest updates and obtain an idea of what various students in our guild think and want.
