Raati päätti tänä vuonna sisällyttää vaalilakanaan vain Senior Web Advisor -viran, ja jättää Tech Supportin pois. Päätöksestä tuli anonyymiä palautetta, joten raati käsitteli asiaa tarkemmin kokouksessaan 38/2022 (pöytäkirjan voit lukea täältä). Tässä avaan hiukan keskustelua, ja mihin lopulta päädyttiin.
Aloite Tech Support -viran lakkauttamiseen tuli Infojaoksen sisältä. Virassa on jo monena vuotena ollut haaste sitouttaa tekijöitä. Tämä johtuu killan tietotekniikan (nettisivut, ilmomasiina) monimutkaisuudesta. Niiden kehittämiseen vaaditaan kokeaa taitotasoa – käytännössä tech supportilta vaaditaan kattavat esitiedot tai paljon perehdytystä, mikä syö kokeneempien omaa aikaa kehittämisestä. Kokematon ei siis pääse suoraan hommiin, ja virasta voi siksi olla vaikea löytää mielekästä tekemistä.
Päädyimme ratkaisuun, jossa killassa ei ole ensi vuonna Senior Web Advisoreita, vaan pelkästään Tech Supportin jäseniä. Toiveena on, että tech supportiin löytää tiensä sekä kokeneempaa että uutta innokasta väkeä, jotka ovat valmiita käyttämään aikaa asioiden opetteluun. Tech support toimii vertaisjohtamalla, jossa kokeneemmat ohjeistavat ja osallistavat uudempia, ja näin tietotaito siirtyy eteenpäin. Näin taakka uusien perehdyttäimisestä ei olisi pelkästään Senior Web Advisoreilla, vaan vastuu jakautuisi laajemmalle. Vastaavasti uusien kynnys ottaa vastuuta hommista olisi matalampi. Toimikunnan koko pyritään myös pitämään pienempänä, jotta se voi toimia tiiviisti ja tehokkaammin kuin nykyisin.

Hello,
Board decided to include only Senior Web Advisor -role in the election sheet, and leave Tech Support out. This decision resulted in anonymous feedback, so board discussed this further in the meeting 38/2022 (minutes can be read here, unfortunately only in Finnish). The discussion is summarized here, and the course of action explained.
The initial idea of disbanding Tech Support-position originated from Information Division. For many years it has been a challenge to make the position engaging. This is because the guild’s information technology infrastructure (website, sign-up system) are complex. Developing them requires high level of know-how - in practice tech support members require high level of prerequisite knowledge or lots of teaching from the more experienced members, which cuts down on their development time. An inexperienced member cannot jump straight into action, and this can make it difficult to find meaningful tasks to do.
We ended up deciding that there are no Senior Web Advisors in the guild next year, but only Tech Support members. The hope is that there are both more experienced older members, and new enthusiastic members who are ready to put time into learning how things work. Tech Support works by peer-leading, where the experienced teach the new members, and make sure that they get to participate in the projects, thus transferring knowledge forwards. This way the teaching of new members is not solely the responsibility of Senior Web Advisors, but is shared more evenly. This hopefully also lessens the threshold of taking responsibility. The size of the committee is also kept smaller, so it can cooperate more easily and work more efficiently.
